YLG and NSDC organised Hair Dressing & Beauty Therapy for the World Skill Competition 2011

Bengaluru-based YLG Salon & Spa, from 27 to 29 May, 2011, in association with NSDC organised the 41st World Skills, National Selections Round, Hair Dressing & Beauty Therapy for both women for the first time ever in India. World Skills Competition is one of the largest international Vocational Skills Competition in the world. The 41st World Skills competition is scheduled to be held in London at the ExCel exhibition and conference centre in London from 5 to 8 October, 2011. YLG Salons & Spa, a successful retail chain has 16 salons spread across Bengaluru and has plans to venture into other regions of the country.

The competition for hair tests varieties of skills ranging from the Classical Sculptured Cut & Style, Avant Garde Cut to Colour Style, Beard Design, Fashion Haircut with Colour, and more. The jury members for hair were Simii Keer, the National Technical & Academy Manager, L’Oreal Professional and Nausheen Fathima, the Regional Technical Head -South, Schwarzkopf Professional.

The Beauty Therapy competition tests the young contestants for skills like facial treatments, nail treatments, body treatments, fantasy make- up, waxing treatment and lash and brow Tint, eyebrow shaping with tweezers. Vaijayanti Bhalchandra, the Director -Cutting Edge Ltd (Ex YLG – Head of Services & Products) and Latha Nair, Founder & Style Director, Les Cheveux were the jury members evaluating the competition for Beauty Therapy.

The competition saw 10 participating teams in each segment. At the end of the third day of the event, one team each comprising of the participant and the mentor were declared winners. The winner for ladies and mens hairdressing was K. S Abhishek mentored by Radha from ISHA Academy, Bengaluru and the Beauty Therapy category was won by Savita mentored by Atasi Misra from YLG Salon & Spa, Bengaluru, while Amit Pal and Shilpa were awarded the second position in the two categories, respectively. The winners were awarded a cash price of Rs 5,000 each.
