Amazon opens largest fulfilment centre in Sonipat

Amazon has announced the opening of its largest fulfilment centre (FC) in Sonipat, Haryana.
Spread over 200,000 square feet with more than 800,000 cubic feet of storage space, the FC will allow Amazon to offer its fulfilment by Amazon (FBA) service to several thousand more small and medium businesses in the Delhi NCR region and the state of Haryana.
The FC is in line with Amazon’s planned investments of six new FCs in India. The combined storage capacity available to sellers on Amazon will increase 1.5 times to 7.5 million cubic feet by the end of this year.
“It will enable thousands of small and medium businesses to save money by replacing their upfront capital expense with low variable cost and pay only for the storage space they use and the orders that we fulfil.Our Fulfilment Centres play a significant role in the development of an inclusive e-commerce economy with benefits accruing across the ecosystem. It also enables many more customers in the region to shop on and opt for cash on delivery, guaranteed next-day, same day, release day, morning delivery and Sunday delivery,” Vice President, India Customer Fulfilment, Amazon India, Akhil Saxena, said. now has close to 2 million cubic feet of storage area to offer to thousands of sellers across Haryana and Delhi. Local sellers, weavers, craftsmen and artisans involved in traditional textiles and local handicrafts too would be able to reach a wider set of customers and provide a delightful customer experience through this new FC.
Many sellers have already registered at this facility and many of them have started inbounding their products.
Amazon, under the aegis of its Amazon Cares program has also inaugurated a Community library and Resource center in Kamaspura, Sonipat which has been set up in partnership with Rural Education and Development (READ) India. With the vision of ‘Creating opportunities and transforming lives’ will create programs to impact and enhance the lives of the local community in the areas of education, livelihood, health and sanitation.
The education support initiative will focus on creating opportunities and will enable access to quality education for the community children. Their health initiative will focus on promoting & advocating preventive health care through partnerships with the local community and the district government. Some of the initiatives planned on sanitation include awareness and advocacy programs on cleanliness, hygiene and house-hold waste management.
