Samsung Electronics, Whirlpool and Godrej to sell durables online

Aiming to benefit consumers, manufacturers and online retailers, India’s largest e-commerce marketplaces, Snapdeal, Flipkart and Amazon are trying to rope in appliance and white goods manufacturers such as Samsung Electronics, Whirlpool and Godrej for selling their products online.
Large electrical goods companies are now considering e-commerce as a major step forward to forge their sales. These companies are to develop a separate line of models for online channels and are also reportedly mulling exclsuive brand stores on ecommerce websites.
Tony Navin, senior Vice-president, electronics and home was quoted as saying, “The pace of growth of smartphones accelerated after the brands decided to partner with e-commerce players and we see similar prospect for appliances as well.”
While Snapdeal’s wide customer reach goes upto 5,000 towns ith its television and appliances range, Amazon India has sold televisions to more than 19,000 pin code areas. For the latter, televisions have already become the second-biggest electronics category after mobile phones; in the category of kitchen appliances, the e-tail major is seeing sales growing at 200 per cent. Since the launch of large appliances in December 2014, the category sales are growing at 30 per cent month on month.
According to analysts, white goods manufacturers are expecting a 10 per cent contribution from online channels in the next couple of years.
