Tatas will not be allowed to enter retail in WB: Mamta

Must Read

It is probably the hardest time of the year for business barons Tata. After being restricted from launching the Nano on the slated time from its Singur plant in West Bengal, the company is being held back from introducing retail operations in the state.

Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee has said that her party would resist the group’s presumptive entry into West Bengal’s retail sector.

Citing reasons for this move, Banerjee said, “If the Tatas are allowed to enter the retail sector, it will spell disaster for small traders which Trinamool Congress will resist through movements,” Banerjee said from her dharna ‘manch’ (dais) near the Durgapur Expressway.

Highlighting the goals of her party’s rally held in Kolkata on September 1, Banerjee said it was a meeting to safeguard the interests of poor retailers already facing hardship in face of entry of large industries into the sector.

Banerjee also criticised the CPI(M) for “failure” to build up a movement against mounting inflation “which has touched 13 per cent.”
