Textiles ministry to study Kerala’s screwpine craft

To document the socio-economic status of the craftsmen and draw up strategies for welfare of the artisans, the Union Textiles ministry will conduct a comprehensive study on screwpine craft of Kerala.

According to an official release, the survey is being conducted by the development commissioner (Handicrafts) through the Kerala Rural Development Agency (KRDA), based in Karunagappaly in Kollam district.

The survey will focus on the socio-economic status of the craftsmen, the concentration areas of the craft, and problems and constraints being faced by the sector.

‘The study will enable formulation of schemes and promotion strategies for the development of the craft and welfare of artisans,” the release added.
