Private sector dairy Hatsun Agro Product Ltd (HAPL) is planning to set up a new 60 metric tonne per day milk powder plant near Krishnagiri in Tamil Nadu with an investment of Rs 60 crore. The plant is expected to be commissioned by August 2008.

Another plant is being commissioned at Madurai in January 2008 with a capacity of 1 lakh litres of milk a day. The Honnali dairy in Karnataka is expected to be commissioned this month with a capacity to process and pack 1 lakh litres of milk a day.

Chennai-based Hatsun Foods made its beginning in 1970, manufacturing and marketing Arun ice-creams. The company procures 1.5 million litres of milk per day from over 6,000 villages and over 4 lakh farmers directly covering a 1,300 km stretch from Raibagh in North Karnataka to Tenkasi in Tamil Nadu.

Hatsun is also synonymous with Arokya Milk sachets. Last year, the company launched a ready-to-eat pre-packed curd rice under the name of Krd Rys.
