Also present on the occasion was Sarvesh Kumar, chief of marketing and sales, Agrico, and chief of retail initiatives.

The “steeljunction” store, spread over an area of 3,500 square feet, houses products made out of steel. Product categories like furniture, utensils, lifestyle products, modular kitchen, home appliances, and hardware items are also on display. Additionally, all Tata Steel sub-brands like Tata Shaktee, Tata Tiscon, Tata Pipes and Tata Agrico will be sold through the outlet.

The main objective of Tata Steel in venturing into organised retail is to change the perception of people towards steel, through showcasing steel as providing useful products that touch the lives of ordinary people. The company is planning to open six more stores by March 2008.

The first “steeljunction” was opened in December 2005 in Kolkata.

Established in 1907 as an integrated private-sector steel company, Tata Steel is today the world’s sixth largest steel producer with geographic footprints in India, Southeast Asia, the United Kingdom and Europe. With the recent acquisition of Corus Limited, the combined enterprise has a crude steel capacity of 25.6 million tonnes, with over 84,000 employees across four continents.
