Comptex 2007 starts in Coimbatore on October 26

The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Southern Region, and Southern India Mills’ Association (SIMA) are organising the annual conference on textiles, Comptex 2007, on October 26 and 27. The fifth edition of the event will be hosted at The Residency in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu.

K Thangaraj, Coimbatore Zone chairman of CII, and SK Sundararaman, convener, textile panel of CII, Coimbatore, informed the media that the meet will have sessions on funding options, expansion, opportunities in non-conventional textiles and a panel discussion on strategies for sustaining the growth of textile industry.

A report on “India in the Global Textiles Ecosystem” prepared by Ernst & Young and CII will be released on the occasion. The report will benchmark the Indian textile and apparel industry with competitors such as Bangladesh, China, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Turkey and Vietnam, and also provide suggestions to the industry to improve its competitiveness.
Ernst & Young is the knowledge partner for Comptex 2007.

The country manager for Mother Care Outsourcing India Private Limited, Martin Anthony, will deliver the keynote address at the inaugural. The theme for the conference is “Sustaining the Growth of Textile Industry – Trends and Opportunities”.

As Sundararaman said, “There is enormous scope for leveraging competencies, brand equities and capital base to catapult the companies to bigger league.” Also, “Capacity enhancement alone is not enough. The industry should focus on achieving scale and sophistication of management systems and processes to drive exponential growth.”

Nearly 150 participants are expected to attend the event.
