Spice Mobile is planning to launch a mobile handset for Rs. 1,000, which will come with a fully activated SIM card inside it. The company plans to rent these handsets for Rs. 1,000. The handsets will be returned after use and the money will be refunded.
These handsets will be available in the market by next month. The company is talking to Indian Railways to make these handsets available on railway platforms. These handsets will be initially sourced from China, but the company plans to manufacture it at its Badhi facility in India by next year.
Plans are also in place to launch a dual mode handset by July, which will support one connection each from two operators simultaneously.
