Costco planning to enter India

Seattle based Costco (Costco Wholesale Corporation), which has a membership warehouse club format, based on the Wal-Mart’s Sam’s and Club and Metro’s Cash & Carry, is eyeing to enter the Indian market.

The company is valued over $60 million and is the fifth biggest retailer of the U.S. It has over 502 wholesale retail stores globally, out of which 370 stores are located in the U.S. at present Metro Cash & Carry and South African Shoprite are the only wholesale retailers operating in India. The current government policy does to stop the company from entering India. However, the company is looking for local partners to expedite its penetration in the Indian wholesale retail market.
