Snapdeal’s Chief Product Officer Anand Chandrasekaran has quit to start his own entrepreneurial venture. He has resigned just a year after he joined and adding to the list of recent high profile exits of Silicon Valley talents from the Indian Unicorns.
Rohit Bansal, co-founder of the company, tweeted on Tuesday: “@anandc proud of the super work by you and the product team. Hard to believe that this was just 1 yr. Farewell, keep rocking!” To which Chandrasekaran replied: “@rohitkbansal thanks for the support. We did in 1 what would take 3 years anywhere.”
The Stanford University alum had joined the company in June last year from Airtel where he was the chief product officer. Chandrasekaran was brought on board to revamp the company’s platform, especially mobile. Chandrasekaran’s hiring was pivotal for the company at that time as rival Flipkart onboarded a Google executive, Punit Soni, to handle a similar role.
The exits also come at a critical time when Snapdeal and Flipkart are battling against US-based Amazon for market share.
Chandrasekaran has also worked with Yahoo, where he held roles of Senior Director for Mobile. Prior to Yahoo, he was Director of Product at Openwave.
There has been slew of Silicon Valley talents quitting from Indian start-ups. Two of Zomato’s successive product heads Tanmay Saksena and Namita Gupta, hired from the Valley, had quit last year.
