Diageo India has marked its entry into the Indian wine segment with the introduction of Nilaya, the first domestic wine from the country.

“Nilaya is a bold, unique and an interesting wine meant for a contemporary India. It exemplifies a cherished lifestyle for everyday living,” said, Asif Adil, managing director, Diageo India.

Available in four varieties such as Chenin Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc, Shiraz Rośe and Shiraz Cabernet; Nilaya’s different varietals are priced at Rs 395-500 and will be available across all major wine retail outlets.

With the launch of Nilaya, Diageo aims to tap into the Indian wine industry. The wine market in India has grown 30-40 per cent over the last one year. Earlier this year, the company launched its range of leading international wine brands like Blossom Hill, Barton & Guestier and Piat d’Or in India.

The wineries in Nashik and Sangli that produce Nilaya range of wines are known for their consistent quality and superlative performance in winemaking. Miazama, a brand from Globus Wines, was the first debutant in the domestic wine market, from these wineries.

Globus Wines had recently announced its entry into the wine retailing business by opening first of its kind, exclusive wine and beer shop, named Globus Wines, in Star Bazaar, Mumbai.
