Star Health to enter healthcare

Star Health and Medical Tourism (SHMT), a subsidiary of the standalone health insurance company Star Health and Allied Insurance Co. Ltd, is planning to enter the healthcare industry in a big way.

The Chennai-based company has already set up 30 family clinics and one speciality clinic, and is in the process of establishing 110 family clinics and four speciality clinics in metros in the current fiscal. The company will expand this to over 1,000 family clinics and also launch four corporate hospitals by 2010.

“We will use these clinics for providing primary healthcare. These clinics are connected with our central telemedicine facility in the corporate office in Chennai, where consultants from different medical streams are stationed,” said Dr S Prakash, medical director, SHMT.

The clinic will also use the facility for pre-insurance test and clinical test for Star Health and Allied Insurance Co.’s policyholders.
