“India is fast emerging as a promising market for SAP (Systems, Applications and Products in Data Processing), particularly the medium-enterprise segment,” says Rick Chavie, senior vice president and global head of SAP’s retail vertical. Retail is SAP’s fastest growing and soon-to-be-largest industry vertical and this naturally brings them to concentrate more on the Indian retail segment, which is estimated to touch Euro 510 billion by the year 2015.

SAP will very soon have their office in India in Delhi with staff strength of 160 people, out of which 35 will be dedicated towards SAP for Retail. Talking about SAP for Retail, Chavie explains, “SAP for Retail is an industry-specific solution set that creates value by enabling retailers to become more agile with the proven, future-proof SAP NetWeaver® platform. It also supports customer loyalty and provides real-time business visibility and operational excellence across all core retail processes, while delivering top-line revenue growth and cost reductions. As a leader in retail applications, SAP invests heavily in research and development, and we are committed to ensuring ongoing innovations to support new technologies and business trends.” In India, SAP will be localising its solutions keeping the tax regulations in mind. According to Chavie, in India grocery and fashion are the fastest growing segments in retail. Presently, SAP has 14 clients in India from the grocery segment.

Worldwide, SAP has won 850 new retail customers in the last 12 months, and in India they are looking at doubling their client base by the end of this year.
