Grofers targets tier-II markets, expands services to 5 new cities

Must Read

After expanding its presence in Mumbai, Pune and Bengaluru this year, on-demand hyperlocal startup Grofers has recently expanded its services to five new cities.
Founded in 2013, Grofers is now available in a total of nine cities across India. The startup is structured around linking kirana stores with customers through a mobile app, giving consumers convenient access to kirana stores, and for these stores to become more technologically organised.
“Expansion is the focus for us – geographically and vertically,” says Sharad Harjai, AVP Marketing, Grofers.
“We wanted to enter the tier II markets and therefore have launched in Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Chennai, Hyderabad and Lucknow as we see them as highly promising markets,” he adds.
Grofers customises its approach in reaching out to customers in every city. The company recently ran a “Free Umbrella” campaign for its customers in Mumbai, to celebrate the first showers of the monsoon season.
The company recently raised $35 million from existing investors for its expansion plans. With this new round, the company’s valuation is being pegged at over $110 million.
