Pakistan’s Gakhar Plaza collapses after fire

A terrible fire broke out and resulted in the collapse of a famous shopping centre, Gakhar Plaza on Saturday in Rawalpindi, Pakistan.

According to initial reports, 12 people died and 62 others were injured. Gakhar Plaza was owned by former federal minister and Pakistan Peoples Party’s (PPP) central leader Raja Shahid Zafar. It had around 500 shops in multiple segments including cosmetics, jewellery, garments and shoes.

Reasons for the breakout that lasted in a blaze of well over 12 hours are being investigated.
