Essar Group to enter mobile retail

Essar Group is planning to invest over Rs 1,325 crore ($250-300 million) to roll out a network of retail showrooms across India.

The company will invest the proposed amount over a period of three years. Sources in the know have confirmed that plans are to roll out approximately 4,000-5,000 mobile showrooms. The company has projected revenues of Rs 4,400 crore by 2010.

These specialty stores will be called ‘The MobileStore’. Such store will not only sell cellular handsets and services, but other products like DTH, broadband connections, data cards and ipods.
