AV Birla group’s retail venture, Aditya Birla Retail (ABR), has planned to make its foray in the retail market with 15 supermarkets at Nashik, Pune and other tier II cities in western India in June this year.
The company has a 130-member retail team, majority of who are from parent group. Sources have confirmed that the company has plans to roll out hypermarkets, but is going to concentrate on supermarkets initially because this format is preferred among most global retailers. The company has hired Russell Berman, a Carrefour ex-employee, to head its hypermarket business.
