Beauty Retailers Upping the Ante for Holiday Season

Contradicting recession reports from the global market, international mass merchants and their beauty vendors are busy chalking out holiday promotional offers for the beauty products. US-based Drugstore giants, like Duane Reade and , have high hopes from their beauty sections. In order to lure the holiday shopper early, they are using their upscale beauty boutiques as outposts to take direct aim at department stores- gift-with-purchase sales tactic. For instance, Beauty 360, the upscale boutique connected to select CVS locations, is rolling out a host of gift-with-purchase promotions, like shoppers who spend $25 on any Bloom cosmetics product will receive a Make Up Essentials Bag worth $29.95, and those who buy $30 worth of Warren Tricomi hair care products will receive a Blow Dry Lotion worth $15.

Similarly, Duane Reade is emphasising its ‘Look Boutique’ departments over the holiday season. “Last year at this time, we had one Look Boutique, now we have 12,” says Joe Magnacca, President, Duane Reade. He further adds, “The Look Boutique will drop a Holiday Beauty Book featuring , including Becca, Pop Beauty and Talika. The in-store boutique will also add new brands in December, including H20+ skin care and, in six stores, Roger & Gallet fragrances. Events are also planned, including Ramy eyebrow shaping services in all 12 boutiques and mini manicures in the Herald Square location.”

Given the promotional efforts retailers are putting in, it seems this year’s holiday season is going to be stronger than the previous one. Looks like the global consumer is spending again.
