International submarine sandwich restaurant chain Subway has introduced four new vegetarian sandwiches (Subs) in its Indian menu. According to the company officials, the new vegetarian Subs, Mexican Bean Patty, Green Pea Patty, Chatpata Chana, and Hara Bhara Kebab are prepared using a healthy mix of the best of local ingredients.

Commenting on the vegetarian options, Manpreet Gulri, Country Head, Subway Systems India, said:  “There is a growing emphasis on eating right in order to maintain a healthier lifestyle. Subway works relentlessly to enhance the nutritional value of its offerings all the while adding flavourful cues to the taste. The delectable new sandwiches will help us connect with our consumers and grow as a glocal brand.”

Known for customisation and low-fat Subs and salads, Subway aims to widen the choice for consumers, especially vegetarian. Keeping the Indian ethnicity in view, the sandwich chain has continually evolved its menu items to suit local taste and preferences.

“We recognise and respect a growing consumer tilt towards vegetarian food preferences. With the addition of these four new sandwiches, 50 percent our menu will offer vegetarian choices. Our new television campaign is aptly called ‘Rejoice in the choice’ and plays up the delight amongst our customers,” said Sanjiv Pandey, Marketing Manager, Subway Systems India.

Headquartered in Milford, Connecticut, and with regional offices in Amsterdam, Beirut, Brisbane, Miami and Singapore, the Subway chain was co-founded by Fred DeLuca and Dr. Peter Buck in 1965. It presently operates 428 stores in India spread across more than 70 cities.
