mjunction’s online retail entry as ‘Straight Line’ in April 2009

mjunction —an e-commerce 50:50 joint venture of Tata Steel and Steel Authority of India Limited — that operates an online marketplace for steel and coal, plans to enter the online retail business to consumer (B2C) segment by April 2009. The company will foray the segment under the brand name Straight Line.

Viresh Oberoi, managing director, mjunction said, “So far, small and medium enterprises (SMEs) were the major revenue earners for us and with Straight Line, we are extending our reach to SMEs so that they can meet their retail needs as well.”

“Straight Line will offer all kinds of retail products including apparel, electronic items, white goods, furniture, everything except rail and air tickets as several players are already in that space,” added Oberoi.

According to Oberoi, Straight Line will provide one-stop solution for services including selling, dispatch, supply chain, logistics and warehouse.
