Indus Fila will open retail outlets

Bangalore-based textile manufacturer Indus Fila Ltd plans to have 12-18 retail outlets by 2008 fiscal. The company recently bought a 51 per cent stake in Mumbai-based Indus Garments (India) Pvt. Ltd for Rs 9.35 crore.

“We will soon enter domestic retailing with our exclusive stores. Initially, the merchandise mix in the outlets will be kidswear, and later we may even have menswear and womenswear on the racks,” Pradeep Totla, company secretary, Indus Fila, told Indiaretailing.

The company plans to augment its textile production capacity to one lakh metres per day from the existing 69,000 metres. It is also learnt that the company is keen on the export market. The acquired Indus Garments is an established apparel manufacturer that makes 36 lakh garments a year and exports more than 96 per cent of its products to customers in the United States and Europe.
