Passionate Hair Stylist: Akshata Honawar

Must Read

Akshata Honawar, Creative Director, Runah Salon, is the member of the prestigious Haute Coiffure Francaise and the L’Oreal Professionnel dream team. Honawar is part of the core team that presented the beautiful India Show at HCF Paris in 2011. She has been a part of the Creative Hairdressers Forum (CHF) for the last three years and has brought her expertise into styling for the recent collections, including the royal wedding collection and retro nouveau, fashion weeks in Mumbai and for many editorials. She has also contributed to the hair industry, sharing her knowledge, by doing shows and teaching in different parts of the country.

The Beginning

I started learning hair styling when I was 13. My mother, being a stylist and trainer herself, taught me all I needed to know before she set me out to beauty schools and academies. After finishing a three months course with her at Rukmini Honawar, I travelled to different schools in London including Vidal Sassoon, Toni and Guy, Saks, et cetra to have in-depth knowledge of the subject.

Before taking up hair styling as a career I tried my hands on electronics and interior design. However, later I realised that my passion is hair styling that came naturally to me and it proved a smooth transition.

The Education

I believe that education in the field of hair dressing and styling is the key. It is unfortunate that in our country we do not recognise a qualified, professional hairstylist but there are quite a few good schools backed up by big professional brands like L’Oreal Professionnel that provide quality of education and training.

Future Plans

I love to teach the diverse concepts of hair styling and dressing. I am looking forward to train and teach as many students as I can through workshops and seminars tied up with L’Oreal Professionnel and other beauty and hair styling schools.
