Jansons, one of the leading dhoti and lungi brands, has introduced men’s formal shirts, sportswear and innerwear in the Kerala market. The Tamil Nadu-based company plans to open 5 exclusive branded stores in cities like Coimbatore, Chennai, Salem, Erode and Tiruchengode in this fiscal.

“We are targeting sales revenue of Rs 5 crore in this fiscal from our new menswear business. By 2011, we expect a sales turnover to the tune of Rs 250 crore from Jansons readymade garment business,” TS Natarajan, chairman, Janson Group, told Indiaretailing.

The company has set a target of 15 exclusive stores across the South by 2008-09 fiscal, and 50 stores across the country by the end of 2009-10. Further, it plans to have 100 stores operational across the country by 2011 fiscal-end, with complete wardrobe solutions for men. It also plans to retail its branded products through MBOs across South India very soon.

The company is witnessing a 50 per cent year-on-year increase in its textile business. This is expected to be 80 per cent this fiscal, according to company officials. The company is also planning to double its existing manufacturing capacity across mills located in Erode, Tirupur and Tiruchengode.

Priced affordably between Rs 325 and Rs 595, the formal shirts are targeted at youth and men in the mid-level segment. “We don’t see any threat or competition from mid-priced brands. We are here to succeed, and we will succeed like always,” Natarajan stated. The company will also introduce formal trousers for men in the next two months’ time.

Jansons is a market leader in dhotis, lungis and ready-to-stitch fabrics and school uniforms, with over Rs 100 crore-plus sales revenue in textiles alone. The company fetched export revenue of Rs 35 crore last year, company officials informed. The export products include a host of items such as bags, chair canvasses, automobile covers, and surgical towels.
