Internationally renowned, US-based specialty retailer of women’s intimate apparel Victoria’s Secret recently hosted the 19th edition of its annual lingerie fashion extravaganza in London, UK. On the night of December 2, 2014, every heart at the city’s Earls Court skipped a beat when the smoldering beauties took to the catwalk in style in gold wings and diamond-studded bras leaving the audiences spellbound. Notably, it is only the second instance the event has ventured outside of the US since inception in 1995, first being in Cannes in 2010.
In line with its reputation, the show– which was a confluence of fashion, fantasy and entertainment – oozed with glitz, glamour & oomph as 47 Victoria’s Secret supermodels or “angels” including some of the most popular faces from the international modeling circuit ?namely Adriana Lima, Alessandra Ambrosio, Behati Prinsloo, Candice Swanepoel, Doutzen Kroes, Elsa Hosk, Lily Aldridge, Lindsay Ellingson and others sashayed in colorful attire inspired by exotic destinations, featuring almost 80 looks. Apart from the top models, the musical performances by seven-time Grammy award winning performer Taylor Swift, three-time Grammy award nominee Ed Sheeran, Ariana Grande and Hozier as well added to the spectacle of the fashion do.
Hogging the limelight, the supermodels Adriana Lima and Alessandra Ambrosio set the runway on fire when they exhibited the ‘14 Dream Angels Fantasy Bras, exclusive creations of jeweler Pascal Mouawad for the brand, while Ed Sheeran crooned one of his hit numbers. They were the two ‘chosen ones’ this year who wore the coveted “fantasy bras” which is the world’s most expensive piece of lingerie priced at $2 million each. These bras, inspired by the Dream Angels Demi silhouette, are embellished with rubies, diamonds and sapphires affixed together with 18-carate gold. Each bra adorned over 16,000 of the precious gemstones. Another highlight was when supermodel Karlie Kloss walked in a pair of golden wings made of 18-carate gold by renowned artist Serkan. What’s more, the brand’s more casual “PINK” line which caters to teens and younger women was also exhibited at the show.
Year-on-year, the Victoria’s Secret Show has served as an outstanding marketing tool for the company to reach out to the millions of fans worldwide. This year’s event at the British capital is touted to be the company’s most expensive show till date costing $20 million (16 million euros). Like previous years, the ‘14 show has also been filmed to be aired on December 9, 2014 on the CBS TV Network, and will include the musical performances, pink carpet interviews, model profiles and a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the most popular fashion show of the world.
