Smaller retailers should be protected: Commerce minister

Must Read

“Smaller retail shops should be protected from being abolished,” stated Union Commerce Minister Kamal Nath. Defending India’s policy on retail FDI, he added: “We need to see that the policy does not dislocate small retailers.” The minister was addressing delegates at the India Sourcing Summit, being held in Bengaluru.

Nath further opined that the conditions in India were different from other countries as organised retail here is not as big as it is in developed countries.

The summit is organised by Indian Institute of Management, Bengaluru (IIMB), and Supply Management Institute (SMI), and will provide a platform for constructive discussion on ‘India as a global sourcing hub’.
