Kohl's, Target gear up for holiday season; each to hire more than 69,000 temp staff

This holiday shopping season, department store operator Kohl’s is planning to hire more than 69,000 seasonal workers in the United States. Kohl’s hired almost equal number of employees last year as well.
It has been supporting Target’s decision to keep the hiring at the same level just like last year despite disappointing sales over the past few quarters, hurt by low demand for apparel and unseasonable weather.
For the fourth year in the row, Target will be hiring 70,000 in-store workers. It will, however, hire 7,500 workers for its distribution and fulfillment centers – about 1,000 more than last year.
Kohl’s will be adding seasonal workers in its distribution, e-commerce fulfillment centers and credit operations as well as in stores.
At present, Kohl’s has more than 1,100 stores in 49 states. It had had 32,000 full-time employees and 108,000 part-time workers as of January 30.
The company increased its seasonal hiring by about 3 per cent last year.
