Snapdeal takes on Amazon Prime, Flipkart Assured with 'Snapdeal Gold'

Online marketplace Snapdeal recently announced the launch of premium service, Snapdeal Gold to take on its rival Flipkart’s Assured and Amazon’s Prime services.
While Amazon Prime, the membership programme of Amazon, has been launched for an initial price of Rs.499, Snapdeal Gold’s services are free of cost for its customers.
Under the services, Snapdeal will offer its customers free shipping, free upgrade to next-day-delivery and extended 14-days return period on their orders.
On the other hand, under Flipkart Assured, goods undergo a six level quality check and the company aims to offer large part deliveries to be done within two to four days.
“Our team met over 10,000 customers across the country to identify the key services they desire from e-commerce companies. Snapdeal Gold has been designed to fulfil those needs. The most important thing is that there is NO catch and NO membership fee – anytime you use your credit/debit card, net banking, EMI or wallet for payment, we automatically upgrade your order to Snapdeal Gold,”Co-founder, Snapdeal, Rohit Bansal said in a press release.
Earlier this month, Snapdeal also said it would spend more than Rs.200 crore on a campaign that will run for 60 days in the run-up to the Diwali festival.
Snapdeal also announced that its next-day delivery service is now available for over 5 million products and the e-tailer aims to double that to 10 million products by this Diwali.The company said these 5 million products are stocked in more than 3 million sq.ft space available across 69 Snapdeal Plus fulfillment centres which has the capacity to handle over 14 million products.
