Amazon Prime launched in India

Must Read

Amazon has finally launched its Prime subscription service in India. Users can sign up for Amazon Prime via the Amazon website, starting with a 60-day free trial.
Amazon has launched their membership service in another bid to outdo Indian e-commerce giant Flipkart. The members of Amazon prime would get guaranteed 1 or 2-day delivery for their purchases on Amazon. There are no limits on the number of fast deliveries a customer can avail.
“We are very excited to bring Prime to our customers in India. With Prime, guaranteed one-day delivery becomes an everyday experience instead of an occasional indulgence, and with no minimum purchases, it provides unlimited convenience all year long,” said Vice-President & Country Head, Amazon India, Amit Agarwal.
The online player will also launch its Prime video service which will give members access to movies and TV shows from Indian and global content providers.
Amazon.in is offering a free two-month trial period and has revamped its on-site and app experience to allow customers to discover and choose Prime products. Members will also enjoy Prime Early Access, which will help them purchase top deals 30 minutes early every day.
“Since its inception in every country, Prime continues to evolve as we add millions of additional items that can be delivered incredibly fast and free. We have also introduced unique digital benefits like Prime Video featuring Amazon Original Series and Movies – you’ll be hearing more about that in the coming months,” said Vice-President Worldwide Prime, Amazon, Greg Greeley.
In India, Prime is being offered at Rs 999 per year. In the US, patrons subscribing to Amazon Prime are charged $10.99 monthly and $99 annually. In India, however, the pricing is lower to crack the price sensitive Indian market.
Amazon has of late been looking at India as a growth market and has pumped in billions of dollars to capture market share and mind space. Most of this growth has been at the cost of longtime market leader Flipkart. Incidentally, the Indian e-commerce company has Flipkart First which is very similar to Amazon Prime and costs as much for an annual subscription.
