CII to Kerala government: Review ‘fat tax’ on burgers, pizzas

The in Kerala, recently in its Budget, has proposed a slew of new tax proposals, including five per cent tax on certain packed foods and a ‘’ of 14.5 per cent for burgers, pizzas and pastas served in branded restaurants.

CII today has urged the state government to review the levy of this tax.

The move “would adversely affect growth of the quick service restaurant segment of the food industry and might set a similar trend for other segments as well,” Co-Chairman, CII National Committee on Food Processing Industries, Piruz Khambatta, said in a statement.
