Zomato's Tanmay Saksena joins e-pharmacy 1mg as COO

Must Read

Zomato’s chief product officer Tanmay Saksena, who quit the restaurant discovery platform earlier this year, is joining health care startup 1mg as its chief operating officer (COO).
Saksena, along with Namita Gupta, who came from social networking site Facebook, and Ashish Goel were some of the prominent hires made by Zomato at a time when other highly valued tech startups like Flipkart and Snapdeal were also luring talent back from the Bay Area. Punit Soni who came from Google to head Flipkart’s product strategy quit recently and so did Zomato’s Gupta.
The high-profile hire comes barely two weeks after 1mg announced that the company had raised Rs.100 crore in a Series B funding round from Maverick Capital Ventures, the venture capital arm of US-based hedge fund Maverick Capital, besides existing investors Sequoia Capital and Omidyar Network.
An IIT-Kanpur and Stanford Business School alumnus, Saksena got on board Zomato as its global business head and set up the food ordering vertical across India, Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Manila before being promoted as the chief product officer.
Prior to Zomato, he worked with a technology startup Playdom that was acquired by Walt Disney where he continued as VP of studio operations at Disney Interactive Media based in Palo Alto.
BRAND HISTORY
1mg was earlier called HealthkartPlus, the generic drug search business of Healthkart, an online vendor of health products run by Bright Lifecare Pvt. Ltd. In April last year, HealthkartPlus was spun off into a separate entity and rebranded 1mg.
