WB Govt offers land for proposed footwear park

The West Bengal Government has offered 130 acres of land for the proposed footwear park at Bantala Leather Complex. It is expected that the footwear park will attract an investment of Rs 1,000 crore.
To felicitate the footwear complex, the state government has directed the Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority to construct the new effluent treatment plant and revamp the drainage system.
As the Government is interested in increasing the leather sector business five times to Rs 50,000 crore in next five years, it is planning to construct another leather goods park and 110 acres in Bantala will be allotted by the Government for the same.
In 2014-15, Indian leather sector exports was at $6.5 billion. Till December exports was $4.4 billion but till March exports are expected to remain at $5.5-6 billion.
