With demand for nutritious and innovative food products on the rise in the country, Belgium-based food ingredient company Puratos, a fully owned subsidiary of Puratos, Food Ingredients Pvt. Ltd, the provider for a range of products; bakery, patisserie and chocolate, has rolled out plans to expand its South Asia business. The company is already exporting products to Nepal and Bangladesh and is now in the process of exporting its items to Sri Lanka and Pakistan.
“In the Asia Pacific region, India is one of Puratos’ promising and one of the most important emerging markets. India is Puratos’ hub in South Asia, from here, we are exporting products to Nepal and Bangladesh. We are also in the process of exporting goods to Sri Lanka and Pakistan in the near future,” Dhiren Kanwar, Country Head-India, Puratos Food Ingredients Pvt. Ltd., was quoted as saying.
Seeing the huge potential lying in the Indian market, and to bridge a gap between the local food industry and entrepreneurs, the company is also planning to bring to India, the world-class products, technology and machinery. Puratos’ customers in India include McCafe, Dunkin Donuts, Monginis and Mad Over Donuts. Apart from these, several family-owned businesses and small food retail chains also source food ingredients from the company.
Globally Puratos has a revenue of 1.4 billion euros, and has over 55 plants spread across 43 countries, it started its India operations in 2008 with a plant at Navi Mumbai, and had since then launched nearly 80 products, and is continuing to grow its portfolio. The company has an R&D centre in India which tailors products, according to the local taste, value and functionality.
The company also plans to promote cocoa plantation in the country as India imports more than 80 per cent of its requirement from Africa, Brazil and other countries.
