Dell India to double retail presence in 2015

Must Read

Driven by growing sales and market share in India, computer hardware giant Dell plans to increase the number of its stores in India to 800 this year. The company will also increase the proportion of its enterprise sales through channel partners.
Last year, Dell India had doubled its number of stores to 400. “Most of our sales in the client space (laptops, desktops, and tablets) come from bricks-andmortar shops — large retail formats. So we are continuing to increase our Dell format stores.” Alok Ohrie, president and managing director of Dell India, was quoted as saying.
Dell India attributes the growing sales to the physical store expansion strategy.  The company’s online sales — including through e-commerce websites and the company’s own website — are still in the single digit range, as a percentage of sales.
Dell also plans to focus on the enterprise segment. Roughly 35 per cent of Dell’s enterprise sales came from channel partners last year. The firm expects that proportion to increase over the next few years, with greater penetration into tier II and III markets.
