Vaishali K Shah, a Beauty Cosmetologist and a CIDESCO Diploma holder started the academy to educate and provide a life-long employment to people. According to Shah, educating aspirants will not only help the students gain knowledge about the industry, but also give birth to more job opportunities for them across the world. “They can work at leading salons like Lakmé, VLCC and also be a part of salons and spas in hotels. Apart from seeking employment, one can also start up her salon and spa either in India or abroad,” says Shah.

The academy that has centres in Andheri, Mulund and Vashi, affiliated to international boards like CIBTAC from UK, CIDESCO from Switzerland and City & Guilds from London. The academy has been imparting education to around 350 to 450 students every year and is associated with brands like, Schwarzkopf and L’oreal. Students from Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Mauritius, US and the Middle-east have also been a part of the academy.

Courses

There are courses for both freshers and established professionals. The Foundation Programme in Beauty Hair and Make-up teaches the basic science of hair, shampooing and deep conditioning, client consultation, basic hair cutting techniques, blowdry and thermal setting, head massage and hair spa, professional ethics and salon procedures, support health and safety in salons, bridal make-up and other beauty related programmes like manicure, pedicure, bleach, waxing and facial. The International Diploma in Hair Dressing that follows the syllabus designed by City & Guilds which imparts education on hair dressing, cutting, colouring, perming, rebonding and styling. Following the CIDESCO syllabus, the International Diploma in Beauty Cosmetology focuses on ancillary treatments like skin cleansing, exfoliation and electrotherapy.

The academy, in order to provide much attention to their students, does not enroll more than 10 students in a batch. External examiners from abroad take theoretical and practical examination of the students at the academy every year.

The hair dressing courses are usually for six months, whereas the cosmetology course takes around one year to complete. The trainers are also certified by India Skills, a venture of Manipal Education and City & Guilds, London, in order to maintain educational standards.
