Walmart.com CEO Joel Anderson to Step Down

Walmart’s United States website chief executive Joel Anderson will step down. He will be succeeded by the company’s Latin America’s ecommerce CEO Fernando Madeira according to a company memo seen by Reuters.

Prior to Walmart, Madeira was the Co-Founder and CEO of Terra,an Internet portal offering entertainment, news and sports. Over the course of 23 years, he was instrumental in taking the business to a more profitable model based on advertising and digital content revenues. A 43-year-old Brazilian, Madeira holds a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology from PUC – RS.

Joel Anderson was appointed as the president & CEO of Walmart.com in 2011. Prior to it, he was the divisional senior vice president of the Northern Plains based in Minneapolis.

Before joining Walmart in 2007, Joel worked as the president of the direct business for Lenox. He also held several positions at Toys “R” Us including senior vice president of marketing for Babies “R” Us, and leading divisions at toysrus.com and the stores organisation. Joel has also worked with Target and DHL.
