Mia Dellicompagni: Taking the Legacy Forward

Must Read

Mia Dellicompagni, Creative Director – Hairdressing, Francesco Group shares with Salon India the route she took to fame, despite being an heiress, her plans for the Group and more.

What led you to the business of hairdressing?

Hairdressing runs in my blood! I joined the family business, something I am proud to be a part of.

Where did you learn about the subject?

I studied hairdressing at our then small academy in Stafford. I also went to many big brands’ academies in London and Manchester.

Who has been your mentor?

My father, Francesco Dellicompagni

Where did you land your first job and at what age?

I started working at the age of 14 at our Bridle Road salon.

How has the journey been so far?

My journey has been vast from a Saturday girl and up every rank. I am very proud to have achieved many things within our company and the industry. The greatest so far is to be on the board of directors and head our creative team.

What challenges did you face?

The challenges I have faced and that I still do are to keep on top of different trends and techniques. We are in such a fast moving industry that it requires constant up-to-date knowledge of latest trends and techniques.

What are the opportunities like in this space?

The opportunities I have realised have been to spot the potential in our people. There is nothing more rewarding than seeing somebody grow and develop within our company and achieve great things.

Which is your favourite tool and product?

My favourite tool has to be my YS Park Cutting Comb. I’m not a gadget person but I cannot live without it now! My favourite product is the recent launch of Sebastion Drynamic. It is a great product for working with long or fine hair.

Who, according to you, is the guru of hairdressing?

My guru of hairdressing has to be Vidal Sassoon. Sorry to sound clichéd!

What about the academies?

We have four academies – an advanced academy in Stafford where I am based. This is the heart of our company where the standards are set. There are two more in Stafford and one in Birmingham. These are based on the NVQ scheme and house our graduate salons for the top of our industry students.

What are your future plans?

My future plans are to develop the Francesco Group to a national brand that is instantly recognised for beautiful hair.
