Monochromes

Monochromes in primary warm colours sizzled the catwalk in suitings, ethnic wear, evening wear and beach wear for both, men and women. Manoviraj Khosla’s Rockstar collection displayed the bright hues such as yellow, orange, green and pink in sync with accessories that were quite popular for the season. His sensual monochromatic bikini range has hints of pastel sequinned embroidery. The section of dresses and gowns dazzled the ramp with golden shimmer satins and sequins.

Michelle Salin’s evening resort wear range has flowing warm monochromes in satin and  cotton. Chennai based designer, Rehane also had models sporting monochromes with ethnic Kutch embroidery and mirror work.

3Dimensions

Vidya Vivek’s collection was an ingenuity of 3D floral forms that was inspired by Milan based, Japanese designer, Shingo Sato’s Transformational Reconstruction (TR) technique. The designer has used the colours of the season, black, red and white to name a few and also incorporated the sculptural floral structures using satin and cotton fabrics.

Ramesh Dembla’s collection of black and grey evening gowns was predominantly made of laces. The designer has played with tulles along with 3D silk work. Manoviraj Khosla’s collection also boasts tufts of black and white floral construction work around the collar and shoulder sleeves.

Fabrics Fusions

Abhishek Dutta has put together a unique combination of fabrics with different textures and patterns for ethnic as well as western wear. Based on the hippie culture, the comfortable and casualwear clothes are designed using the non-identical textures of leather, lace, silks and  embroidery. Almost all the clothes have an ethnic cross stitch effect to complete the grunge hippie feel.

Gunkiran has incorporated western drapes in the collection by using fabrics like chiffon, georgette, crepes and silks. She has used red velvet, rose red, pink, lavender and green shades in her bridal wear series.

New York based, Michelle Salin’s resort wear collection is a combinations of silk with hints of jersey, cottons and chiffon in yellows, oranges, bright bougainvillea and camellia white poppy flower prints.

Jattinn Kochhar has used his favourite knits and teamed them with laces, chiffon, georgettes and polyester. His designs are minimalistic with clean cuts for both men and women.

Inspired by Kerala’s heritage of classical dance, designers duo, Lalita and Amit’s collection, Daksh was based on the Thiam and Khatakali’s multi-coloured crown make up. The series has hand and machine embroidery along on fabrics like georgette, cotton, chandheri and tulle.

Black is Back

Though all the designers used black with a hints of grey, white and red, Jattinn Kochhar’s, ‘Me & I’ range was a fusion of dissimilar patterns of pin stripes, motifs along with patterned laces, feathers and sequins in black.

Ramesh Dembla also experimented with black along with grey, white and red. Black velvet vest coats and jackets for men are also a major part of his series. Manoviraj Khosla used red and gold embroidery on black suits and sherwanis for men.

Low Cuts

This season is all about low backs and open back blouses. Fashion designers like Ramesh Dembla at BFW 2014 had models sporting lace open back saree blouses in ethnic wear collection along with heavy embellishments, cut works with sequins.
