After watches, jewellery and eyewear, Titan has now forayed into the organised helmet market under its Fastrack brand by teaming up with Italy-based helmet manufacturer AGV. The company recently unveiled a new collection of Fastrack helmets in Bangalore during a fashion show by designer Prasad Bidapa. Presently, the organised helmet retail in India is worth Rs 400 crore and has 45 percent market share.
Announcing its entry into the helmet business, Bhaskar Bhat, Managing Director, Titan, said: “India has one of the highest number of two-wheelers in the world, therefore, the helmet business has a large potential here. But the category is currently driven by unorganised players and is under served. Backed by our in-house design and marketing expertise and wide retail footprint, we have entered the helmet sector. We aim to ensure safety and comfort of our customers with our superior quality product. ”
“We are getting the helmets manufactured in India. Our partner company will make helmets for us according to our design. We’ll control marketing, design and safety standards,” informed Ronnie Talati, the company’s Vice President & CMO – Watches & Accessories Division.
H G Raghunath, Chief Executive Officer – Watches and Accessories Division (Titan Company), said that the company plans to sell helmets through its147 Fastrack stores. He also confirmed that Fastrack as a brand of watches and accessories has a turnover of Rs 770 crore and by the end of the fiscal expects to have 200 stores.
Stating that the helmets are ISI approved and have been designed keeping in mind the youth of today, the company officials said that priced between Rs 1,495 and Rs 3,495, the new range will have 24 variants for boys and girls.
