Alison Stewart Going Full Throttle

Alison Stewart, an award winning hairdresser based in Scotland, has been in the business for 17 successful years. She runs two salons in Glenrothes and Kirkcaldy and is as passionate about her skills as she is innovative.

How did you enter the line of hairdressing?

I have always been interested in hair styling. I got an opportunity to enter the line when I finished high school and ever since, I have not needed to look back.

Where did you study the subject?

In the initial days when I joined a salon, I studied as much as possible in-house. I have also attended several seminars and events held by experts such as Vidal Sassoon and Toni&Guy who helped me hone my skills further.

Who has been your mentor?

I have been fortunate to be mentored by the two most powerful names in the business, Anthony Mascolo and Vidal Sassoon.

Where was your first job and at what age?

My first job was at a local salon where I learnt a lot. After being there for some years, I decided to open my own salon. I was 17 years old then.

How has the journey been till date?

It has been exciting. When I was working for someone I learnt a lot, and when I opened my own salon and even till now, I haven’t stopped learning. Life is a continuous process of learning.

What have been the challenges you have faced?

Using all the skills I need to be a business owner and combining that with being a successful hairdresser.

What are the opportunities you have realised?

I have seized some amazing opportunities by being in this line. I run two successful businesses and training and encourage young people to pursue their dreams, much like I have!

What is your favourite tool and product?

I’m a big fan of razor cutting and I couldn’t live without Kérastase.

Tell us about your favourite hair look and hair colour?

I always like something of the moment and being a Scot, I have a passion for red heads.

Who is the guru of hairdressing?

Anthony Mascolo! There is no one to match his intellect and skills.

Do you have any plans of opening an academy?

Not at the moment. In our area, we have great colleges and we work alongside with them.

What are your future plans?

To continue to grow my businesses and the people in them.
