The Woolmark company, established in 1964 and known as one of the leading textile fiber brand, brought together major woolen textile retail brands Raymond, Monte Carlo Fashions, and fashion designer Rahul Mishra to discuss the 360-degree view of wool market in India. The interactive session held in the capital today at Shangri-La, Eros Hotel to highlight the growth and revolution of wool in the Indian market and changing dynamics of the industry globally. People from the industry also discussed country’s role in the growth of wool industry.
During the event Alex Lai, The Woolmark Country Manager, Hong Kong, Taiwan and India conducted the interactive session and shared that Merino wool is one of the finest wool in the world that is imported by Australia. As per the statistics provided in the conference, India imported 89 percent Merino wool from Australia in 2013-14 season.
The meet also busted the myth that wool is only worn in winter, however, it is wearable in summer too. Wool is the natural fiber that absorbs 30-35 percent moisturiser. Hence, the retail brands are working on the cool wool campaign to launch in SS’14. “We are working to make wool aspirational for the country and will come up with cool wool SS’14 collection,” added Mrinmoy Mukherjee, Director Marketing, Raymond.
Mukherjee also shared that Raymond is in the industry since 1925 and have been working with the finest wool in the world that has diameter of 1-1.5 micra. On the other side, Swapan Dutta, President, Retail, Monte Carlo Fashions, said: “Monte Carlo, readymade garment brand by Oswal Woollen Mills, has been producing high-quality fashion winter wear from pure Australian Merino and lamb wool. It is certified with woolmark logo.” The brand has planned new marketing and distribution strategies to make latest product range available to the consumers in the shortest time. The company has 190 exclusive business outlets and plan to expand them to 200 by the end of this financial year.
Fashion designer Rahul Mishra, IWP India-Middle-East winner 2013-14 explained that how woolen yarn is replacing other textile and making designs better and beautiful. Mishra gave chanderi treatment to woolen yarn and explained: “It is a yarn of possibility. Woolen yarn has strengthen crafts. It is elastic and doesn’t crush like cotton”. Woolen is also dye friendly yarn in comparison to cotton, moreover easy to heat set. The fashion designer is also experimenting on Bandhani concept with woolen yarn.
