AOI, a 45-seater Japanese restaurant has recently opened on Kolkata’s Sarat Bose Road. It is an initiative of K House Food India Pvt Ltd, an Indian subsidiary of K House Food in Japan.
Said Palash Banerjee, MD, K House India: "Though Kolkata is a foodie’s haven, the city does not have an exclusive Japanese restaurant, that is, one that serves ‘original" Japanese dishes."
AOI will offer the entire range of Japanese cuisine from across all regions of the country. According to Banerjee, all the ingredients will be imported from Japan to ensure that the dishes served in India retain their original taste and flavour. The restaurant will serve appetizers, Japanese salads and popular dishes like sushi, sashimi, donburi, yakitori or grilled chicken, yakimono and mushimono amongst many more.
The interiors reflect the conventional dining culture of Japan with its fine architecture of the Shoji style. The traditional low sitting area or Tatami , is the first of its kind in the city. The paintings, floor mats, wallpapers, as well as the classical music (Enkka in Japanese) have been imported from Japan.
The 1,300 sq.ft. restaurant is an addition to the existing 36 outlets of K House’s popular food chain Kyoto Gin Yuba in Japan. Three more outlets are planned to open within the next three months in the city, followed by branches in Mumbai and Delhi.
