PVR opens multiplex at Avani Riverside Mall, Howrah

Multiplex chain operator PVR has launched its four-screen multiplex at Avani Riverside Mall in Howrah, spread across an area of 32, 820 sq.ft., with a capacity of 1,186 seats. This is the first-ever PVR multiplex launch in East India.

Sanjeev Kumar Bijli, Joint Managing Director, PVR said, “We are extremely delighted to announce the launch of our first multiplex in East. The city Kolkata had been on our expansion radar since long and we are happy to expand our footprints in East India finally. With the launch we now have our presence in all the four regions of our country.”

Talking about his plans for expanding in East, he said,”We will soon add another five- screen multiplex in Kolkata at Jessore Road, Diamond Mall. And then looking at cities like Ranchi, Dhanbad and Jamshedpur. We are looking at investing about Rs 100-150 crore this year and will add 70-75 numbers of screens across 28 cities in the year 2012.”

Bijli further said, ” We always wanted to enter Kolkata, but somehow we were waiting for the right opportunity. But we are happy that we waited for so long and then finally has got an opportunity to open our multiplex in Avani Riverside Mall, the reason we zeroed down on this mall was that the catchement area over here is very good. So, there is no mall in the radius of 6-7 km and then this is the first mall of Howrah. So, we are really excited about our new multiplex over here.”

During the occassion, Vimal Goel, Group President, Avani Riverside Mall said, ““PVR as a cinema exhibition brand is a leader in its segment. This is their first multiplex in Eastern India comprising of 4 Auditorium having almost 1186 seats with full range of concessionaire. PVR is renowned for its quality in terms of feel, aesthetics and sound and projection systems. With the launch of PVR Cinemas, residents of both sides of the river shall experience the ultimate in cinema viewing.”

With this launch, PVR now has 162 screens in 37 cinemas in 21 cities across India.
