Howrah to get a new mall by September end

Must Read

Avani Riverside Mall, a retail real estate venture of Avani Group is all set to open on September 27 in Howrah for the public of Kolkata.

The retail potential in Howrah and its suburban areas of Shibpur, Andul and Shalimar is exponentially high and also largely untapped.

"Howrah is one of the most populated district of India, which is highly cash rich primarily because of its several industrial units located here. The area has a population of approximately 4.8 million people but unfortunately there is not even a single shopping mall or an entertainment destination in this entire region. Hence, choosing this location was an obvious decision. In fact, a recent survey conducted by the students of a reputed management institute in Kolkata revelled startling facts. One of them is that somewhere near 33 percent of people walking into any mall in Kolkata on any given day are from Howrah," said Subir Das, COO, Avani Riverside Mall.

Big Bazaar will be one of the hypermarkets in the mall, whereas mall developers are talking to various international brands like Bestsellers and BMI to open up their stores in the mall. KFC, SUBWAY, McDonalds, Pizza Hut, Mainland China, Machaan, Veda and Flurys are few of the important food brands signed up by the mall.

The shop sizes vary from 250 sq.ft. to 2000 sq.ft. for vanilla brands. The rent varies across floors and locations. The agreements will generally last for 9 years.

According to Das, expected footfall on an average weekday will be 25, 000, on weekends upto 40,000 and 60,000 on special days, initially for the first year.
