Narendra Kumar opens flagship store in Mumbai

Acclaimed fashion designer Narendra Kumar, in partnership with Sammeer Sheth, has launched his flagship store at Madhu Park in Khar, Mumbai. Kumar showcased his latest collection for friends and clientèle at the launch. The interiors of the store – spread over an area of 1,200 sq.ft – have been done by the designer himself taking an open spaced art gallery approach.

“I have always been interested in designing spaces and have conceptualised and executed the interiors of both my stores. The store is designed like an art gallery – relaxed, minimalistic and yet very modern with big windows. The courtyard and garden in the front gives an airy and settled in feeling,” says the designer.

The flagship store houses Narendra Kumar’s bespoke trousseau line, menswear titled ‘Kagemusha’– a Japanese Samurai inspired collection, jackets and shirts. Also included in the store is a young, sport inspired party wear line and evening wear gowns. The price starts at Rs.4,200 for shirts, Rs.9,000-15,000 for dresses and Rs.20,000 onwards for jackets and bridal wear on demand.

Talking about the expansion plans, Kumar said, “I don’t want to add too much retail. It’s quite a task to expand that way. We are looking at increasing our retail presence through multi-designer outlets and corporate tie-ups like ‘Killer Nari’ jeans. We also have one with Westside. I am planning to open another store in Delhi in March 2011.”

The fashion designer currently has one store each in Delhi and Mumbai. Kumar is also planning to venture into an Indian line (both ethnic and bridal for women) in near future. Also, the Narendra Kumar range of accessories – shoes, bags and belts, among others – will hit the stores early next year. “It will be an expensive line, very modern just in sync with our apparel line,” said Kumar.
