Bata India reports excellent Q3

Bata India Ltd, one of the leading footwear retailer and manufacturer, announced its financial results for the third quarter, which ended 30 September, 2010 with an increase of 69 per cent in Profit Before Tax (PBT) and a 58 per cent growth in net profit.

During this quarter, the company’s PBT grew by 69 per cent at Rs 308 lakh as against Rs 1818.6 lakh in the same period last year. The net sales grew by 12 per cent at Rs 2,9178.1 lakh as against Rs 2,6042.7 lakh.

Announcing the results, Marcelo Villagran, Managing Director and CEO, Bata India said, “These excellent results of the company are the result of higher sales and profitability due to our continued expansion plan, an excellent shoe line, improved distribution and our customer centric approach. We have been delivering the best results and are well on our way to make this the most profitable year for Bata India. There has been consistent growth in our retail and non retail businesses which has made this quarter so successful.”

Bata India continued to expand its operations by opening 71 new, large format stores across metros and tier I and II cities. The expansion continued to see more store openings across Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad and Bangalore along with increased penetration in smaller markets such as Ahmedabad, Coimbatore, Jaipur, Trichy, Lucknow, Ujjain, Dhanbad, Nagpur, Hubli and Patiala amongst others.

The company also opened 15 new Hush Puppies stores – there are now 12 exclusive brand outlets along with 13 shop-in shops with leading department stores such as Lifestyle and Central. They also launched its new festive collection in its stores, offering new designs targeted at the young customers, under its famous brands such as Marie Clair, North Star, Power and Weinbrenner.

Bata has also announced the launch of its Bata Home Delivery service under which the customers can now place orders for any footwear, which they are unable to find in an outlet and have it delivered to their doorstep through courier. This is a `free-of-cost` service will run for a limited period.

Along with Home Delivery, they also launched their new website at www.bata.in, which provides consumers the option of browsing the extensive range of footwear by Bata and buy online. The website highlights Bata’s latest collections that are in sync with the current fashion trends in vogue world over, besides the bestsellers from the brand.

Villagran, said, “The launch of this unique service by Bata India is another step towards reaffirming our leadership of the footwear retail industry in India. We hope that this service is able to bring many more smiles to our customers, apart from the new stores, improved collection and better customer service. We hope this will lead to higher customer satisfaction and loyalty with our customers in India. With this service, our stores can now provide better customer service, achieve higher conversion, and increase their sale performance.”

Bata has been present in Indian for more than 75 years and is known to offer footwear and accessories for the entire family. It retails through over 1,200 Bata Shoe stores located in over 400 cities across India.
