Levi Strauss appoints Sanjay Purohit as head of India business

American jeans and casual wear manufacturer Levi Strauss & Co has appointed Sanjay Purohit as managing director of Levi Strauss India. Purohit succeeds Shumone Chatterjee, who has moved to the regional office in Singapore to become vice-president of marketing, Levi’s Brand, for Levi Strauss & Co’s Asia-Pacific division.

Purohit is tasked with continuing to accelerate the growth of Levi Strauss & Co’s business in India. Chatterjee moves up to the regional leadership role after five years of heading the India business. Both Purohit and Chatterjee are members of the Asia-Pacific leadership team.

“We are excited to welcome Purohit to the team as the head of our business in India. He has a wealth of experience with iconic brands. He will join the company at an exciting time as we celebrate our 15th year in India and gear up for more growth in a country of significant opportunities,” says Aaron Boey, president, Asia-Pacific division, Levi Strauss.

“We are also thrilled to have Chatterjee join our regional team as the leader of our marketing efforts for the Levi’s brand in Asia-Pacific and South Africa. Chatterjee’s success in helping to build our India business will serve him well as leader of marketing for our flagship brand across the region,” added Boey.

Levi Strauss & Co is one of the world’s largest branded apparel companies and global leader in jeanswear, marketing its products in more than 110 countries worldwide. The company designs and markets jeans, casual wear and related accessories for men, women and children under the Levi’s, Dockers and Signature brands. The company’s Asia-Pacific division was established in 1995 in Singapore. It comprises local subsidiary businesses, licensees and distributors selling its products in 39 countries in Asia-Pacific and Southern Africa.
