Gurpreet Seble, a certified international educator and nail expert from US held a Nail Spa workshop in Kolkata in March. She talks to Salon India about the salon industry.

The nail workshop in Kolkata was a frenetic show of hands. Salon owners, beauty specialists and technicians were provided with hands-on learning about nail extensions, nail art, revolutionary manicure/pedicure techniques and products, etc. Attendees were awarded a certificate of training as attendees at the end of the day-long workshop.

After 20 years of experience in the niche area of nail art and witnessing the explosion of nail salons in North America, Seble brought her `first full-service nail salon` called Nail Spa to India. Says Seble, “For the past 20 years I have witnessed the explosion of nail salons in North America and saw the same potential here.” She now has several locations in New Delhi and Gurgao, one in Agra and a recent opening in Bengaluru. There are plans to open salons in Chennai and Hyderabad by the second or third quarter of this year along with five more salons in New Delhi and two in Mumbai in the future.
Seble puts the present worth of the nail business in America at $ 4 billion. Based on past experience, she believes India is on course to trail this success within the next five to eight years. She elaborates, “This business opportunity is far beyond any other in the beauty industry today. The return per square foot in a nail bar exceeds any other beauty service within the salon. It is guaranteed to increase revenue.”

Talking about her India business, Seble notes that the first two years to educate clients and bring awareness about nails. “Without education, there is nothing. Technical expertise is most important,” she says. Along with business, she aims to help social causes as well. “I want to provide a career to the have-nots and a dignified career to women. I would like to associate with NGOs to boost employment for some people free of charge,” she adds.
