WLFW: Beauty from the catwalk

Must Read

Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week in New Delhi was a hothouse of new styles in make-up and hair, providing an insight into the colors and styles for Autumn/Winter 2010.

Classic elegance
At this edition of WLFW, a clean, classic look with hair pulled away from the face ruled the runway. Designers such as Tarun Tahiliani, Shantanu & Nikhil, Rocky S, Ashima-Leena, Sulakshana Monga and JJ Valaya showcased their collection with neatly tied up hair and well defined make-up. “One of my favorite looks is for duo Shantanu & Nikhil with neatly tied up hair and red lips,” says stylist Yatan Ahluwalia.

Shimmer and gold
Gold continued as a favorite, with shimmer and metallic hues. Sanchita used gold and silver to fine effect with eyebrows covered with silver and gold upon the eyelids. Lips were defined with gold as well. Eyes were contoured with gold for designer Tanvi Kedia`s collection and lips in silver with embellishments were a fine feature as Poonam Bhagat`s models walked the ramp .

Flushed cheeks
Pink and orange cheeks were a huge trend, especially in the collections of Rehane, Nida Mahmood, Siddartha Tytler, Swapan & Seema.

Smokey eyes and nude matte lips
Smokey eyes and nude lips were strong winners on the runway as seen in the collections of designers Amit Agarwal, Ritu Kumar, Preeti Chandra, and more. Vineet Bahl`s look was a classic example. Vimi Joshi, Senior Make-up Artist, MAC cosmetics, Middle East and India commented on the look (led by her team): “It’s a modern take on the classic smokey eye, it’s a golden highlight going into a deep gray blue and green shadow that is slightly winged. Skin is highlighted, contoured and structured against a nude matte lip.”

Luscious reds and browns
Red lips were depicted in many collections such as Ashima-Leena, Tarun Tahiliani, Rocky S, etc, the sheer color radiating energy and confidence. Designer Sonam Dubal chose a chocolate brown with a hint of gloss. “A chocolate brown mouth combined with a 60’s take on the eye, with chopped up lashes and a deep socket with give a trendy, elegant look,” says Vimi Joshi.

Eyebrows
Eyebrows in darkened shades, highlighted with mascara, plain brushed eyebrows and then there were the dramatic unibrows at Payal Jain`s show. Mickey Contractor, MAC`s Director of Artistry discussed the face chart of the models for this show in which the entire face was created in neutral, nude shades with the eyebrows meeting in the center, changing the look completely.
