Must Read

Modern Bazaar, the Delhi-based 30-year-old retail chain, which sells exotic foods and groceries, has opened its second store at the Select Citywalk mall in New Delhi. The new store is spread across 1,200 square feet and has around 8,000 SKUs. Speaking to IndiaRetailing, Kunal Kumar, proprietor of Modern Bazaar states, “We cater to the premium-end customer and Select Citywalk mall was an obvious choice because the mall has a customer traffic of our requirement.” On his plans to open any new stores in near future, Kumar informes that he is planning to open another Modern Bazaar in Gurgaon.

“Modern Bazaar is way ahead of the modern food retailers. They are very new to the market and will take a lot of time to understand what their customers want. Stores that call themselves ‘gourmet’ are selling basic staples like pulses and rice and their assortment is very ordinary,” Kumar informs, adding, “At Modern Bazaar the ratio of exotic foods stands at 90 percent. We have speciality foods section at both our stores and one can assume that the imported food products available at Modern Bazaar can be found nowhere else.”
